A manufacturer of zinc and aluminum die cast parts processes both in a vibratory finishing machine. The goal is clean, bright parts that appear chrome-plated.
Because of differences between zinc and aluminum, however, it was difficult to identify a single polishing/burnishing chemistry that would work equally well for both materials. So, the company used two cleaners, and had ongoing issues with foaming and concentration management.
VBS 125H is a variation of VBS 125 that contains a special surfactant package which brightens zinc and aluminum equally well. Both were developed by Finishing Technology Inc., a manufacturer of vibratory compounds and other mass finishing products. The switch to VBS 125H not only achieved the desired multi-metal compatibility but reduced chemical consumption by 33%.
This custom blend was installed after 6 variations were formulated and tested. It has since proved to be an excellent solution for numerous other nonferrous vibratory applications.
