How they're used: Tractor oil is a complex and distinctive lubricating fluid containing special additives that protect gears and seals, prevent rust, and control friction. Tractor oil is a classification of lubricant that includes construction equipment, logging equipment, excavators, and other equipment that moves on tracks or wheels. For all of these, a well-engineered tractor fluid will lubricate transmissions, wet brakes and clutches, final drives, and hydraulics. Their properties make them useful for both on and off-highway commercial transmissions.
Tractor oils are often referred to as UTTOs (universal tractor transmission oils). The “universal” aspect is mostly true, but owners should confirm that any tractor fluid being considered is compatible with the hose and seal materials in their equipment.
